Not every home needs air ducts. Many homes end up relying on air conditioning window units. However, these are inefficient and unsightly. A better alternative is to install ductless AC units. However, like with all types of AC units, ductless units can sometimes be in need of repairs.
The Fan Isn't Working
You might notice that you're not getting any air from the indoor air handlers, even when the fan is turned on.
Sizing an HVAC system is never an easy job. Even for relatively small structures, such as residential houses, there are a variety of factors that need to be considered. Air conditioning units that are too small will struggle to cool a given space, run inefficiently and use more energy, and ultimately fail much sooner. On the other hand, systems which are overmatched will cost drastically more than is necessary upfront and will still operate inefficiently due to more rapid cycling.
When it comes to furnaces, dirt accumulation is a common reason that many furnaces need to be repaired. The blower motor, the the blower itself, and the filter all need to be cleaned at least once a year to improve the efficiency of your furnace and prevent the need for emergency repairs. If the filter is clogged, your furnace is going to strain to work, causing a big decrease in the efficiency of your furnace.
If your garage is not heated but you would like a way to raise its temperature, installing a propane heater is one viable option. Propane heaters are widely available, and there are many units capable of heating a garage that's 600 square feet or less. However, before you decide to install the propane heater, there are some factors to consider.
Pro: Propane is an efficient heating fuel.
The alternative in a small garage space is often an electric heater.
Your home has plumbing throughout the house. When there is a small leak in one of the pipes, you may not notice it for a long time. You may start to find water stains on your walls, or on your ceiling if there is a leaking pipe. Water stains can also be caused from a leaking roof, so this also has to be ruled out when you find water damage. If a pipe breaks, this is going to cause a much bigger mess and be easier to identify.
